Welcome to the Furman Free Speech Alliance
The Furman Free Speech Alliance (FFSA) is a non-partisan organization founded by Furman University alumni to defend free expression and promote academic freedom on campus. We exist to support students, professors, administrators, and fellow alumni who speak up for open debate and viewpoint diversity—even when it's hard.
We are part of a fast-growing national movement of alumni standing up to the erosion of free speech and intellectual freedom at colleges and universities across the country.
Our Mission
At its core, the FFSA supports Furman’s future as a place of academic excellence, defined by a commitment to free inquiry and the courage to explore controversial ideas. Furman should be widely known as a school that encourages diverse thought and fosters vigorous, civil debate—a place where all voices can be heard and respected.
Where Furman champions these values, we will offer our praise and support. Where it falls short, we will offer criticism and remind our alma mater of the true purpose of a university.
